The University of Chicago has unveiled a major new initiative that will embed artificial intelligence tools and methods across research programs spanning medicine, social science, climate, and the humanities.

The program, backed by a nine-figure commitment from the university and its philanthropic partners, will establish dedicated AI research labs, fund interdisciplinary faculty positions, and create new graduate training pipelines focused on responsible AI development.

UChicago President Paul Alivisatos described it as a defining moment, saying the university is committed to ensuring AI serves human flourishing, not just technological advancement.

The announcement positions UChicago alongside MIT, Stanford, and Carnegie Mellon as a leading center for AI research in the United States.
